Who We Are

We are Ceres, a food packing company with an operative plant in the Aegean Free Zone – one of the most active and efficiently operated free zones in Turkey.

We work closely with our local Turkish partners to source traditionally prepared sun-dried fruits. We are proud to be involved in every step of this process from planting and growing to harvesting and sorting, which ensures that we have the utmost quality product ready to be packed and sent all around the globe.

How the Aegean Free Zone Helps Our Mission

Free zones are customs-free areas developed to facilitate the formalities of essential imports for exporters, especially through reduced red tape and import duties.

With the advantages provided by the Free Zone, we also import dried fruits from other origins to cater to the needs of our customers. Some examples are dried plums (prunes), dates and tropical produce. We consider ourselves a leading importer of high quality tropical dried fruits such as mango slices, pineapple rings and coconut slices.

The Myth of Ceres

Our namesake, Ceres is the Roman Goddess of Agriculture. She is the protector of food growers and specifically grain farmers. The word ‘cereal’ is derived from her name.

After Pluto, God of the Underworld abducts her daughter Proserpina (Persephone in Greek mythology), Ceres is portrayed carrying a lantern as she looks for her. Devastated by her loss, Ceres exiles herself and is unable to tend to the land – which results in a terrible drought and famine on Earth. Concerned by this downward spiral, the Gods rule that Proserpina must spend half of her time with her mother on Earth and the other half in the Underworld with her husband. When Proserpina visits her mother, Ceres’ happiness causes flowers to bloom and fruits to grow – which aligns with Spring and Summer. When Proserpina returns to the Underworld, Ceres becomes somber yet again and the Earth gets colder, which brings Autumn and Winter.
